Pay - $28.84 - $39.40 per hour (BOE) (Travel reimbursement and $1.50/hr + Base Rate when you are travelling)

  • AVL has service trucks for field work. Planes will be used for further distances, of course.

Job Summary

The Field Service Electrical Technician’s primary function is to travel to customers’ locations to perform the following duties:

  • on-site installations, servicing, and repairs for commissioning or warranty work on customer-finished products.
  • Anticipated travel is 50-75% of the time, by car and/or plane.
  • When not traveling, this role will work on the production floor to assist in assembling and installing industrial electrical equipment and control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • The successful candidate will work from technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to support installations in compliance with safety standards and client specifications.
  • This role reports to the Field Service Site Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of a licensed electrician, this role will:
  • Follow electrical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to support the installation of industrial electrical systems.
  • Install, replace, or repair electrical wiring, switch boxes, receptacles, conduits, feeders, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components.
  • Assemble and connect electrical control panels, switchgear, transformers, batteries, and power
  • distribution equipment.
  • Use appropriate tools and equipment, including hand tools (wrenches, cable strippers,
  • handsaws) and power tools.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of OSHA.
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% within the US.
  • Solid knowledge of electrical power circuits and industrial wiring systems.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with standard hand and power tools used in electrical assembly.
  • Must have experience running/installing EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing)
  • Valid US passport preferred.

About the Role

We're seeking a hands-on Traveling Mechanical Service Technician to install, commission, troubleshoot, and service heavy industrial equipment at customer sites across the U.S. When not traveling, you'll support manufacturing operations by assembling generators, enclosures, piping systems, and other industrial components.

What You'll Do

  • Travel to customer locations for equipment installation, startup, maintenance, and warranty service.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Assemble and install industrial equipment, tanks, generators, louvers, dampers, piping, and structural components.
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and rigging equipment to move heavy materials safely.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on design enhancements.
  • Maintain OSHA-compliant safety standards and assist in mentoring junior team members.

  •  Experience with forklifts, overhead cranes, rigging, and material handling
  •  Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings
  • Comfortable lifting 50–75 lbs and working in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel 50–75% throughout the U.S.
  •  ISO 9001 manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Valid passport preferred
